SF Studios, established in 1919 and one of the oldest film companies in the world, has for many years produced feature films and tv-series in Sweden and Denmark. The acquisition of Paradox, one of Norway’s leading productions companies, is a very important step in SF Studios’ long-term strategy to be the leading Studio in the Nordic market.
“I am very excited and proud that Paradox will be a part of SF Studios. Finn Gjerdrum, Stein B. Kvae and Erik Poppe are all great creators and I am looking forward to working with them to take SF Studios to the next level. They, together with the rest of the very talented team at Paradox, will become a crucial part in making us the leading producer and distributor of feature films and tv-series in the Nordics”, says Michael Porseryd, CEO at SF Studios.
SF Studios has for many years had production and distribution operations in Sweden and Denmark. In addition, the company has its own distribution operations in Norway and Finland and an international sales department. The acquisition of Paradox will complete SF Studios’ already established distribution operation in Norway and establish a full-scale studio in that market.
“This is a very important milestone for us as a company. Norway is an attractive market with several huge film and tv-drama successes in recent years, and we have for some time been looking for a way to establish our own production activities and strengthen our position in that market. With the acquisition of Paradox and the very professional team at the company, I am convinced that we will achieve that” says Tim King, Executive Vice President Production at SF Studios.
“We are very excited of this opportunity! SF Studios is experienced, ambitious and international - all we want to be. In a market that is more exciting and more demanding than ever, we can not imagine a better company to take us forward on our new journey”, says Stein B. Kvae, Paradox's chairman through 17 years, who now relinquishes this role to focus his energy on production together with his partner Finn Gjerdrum.
Paradox is one of the leading production companies in Norway and amongst others they have produced the number one box-office hit in Norway 2016, “The King's Choice” and “U-July 22” the strong and widely acclaimed film about the tragic terrorist event that took place at Utöya in Norway 2011. “U-July 22” premiered during the film festival in Berlin 2018 and was at the same festival selected for the main competition.
SF Studios will through the acquisition handle Nordic distribution and international sales of all current and upcoming projects at Paradox.
